The Friends of Stafford Civil War Sites a local Non Profit organizations will be conducting tours of a proposed Stafford County Civil War Park on various dates form July through October 2010. The area contains 3 large Union Battery sites, a 1800s quarry, Union Army Encampment and ruins of a pre-Civil War road and Bridge. Tours leave from the Brooke Rd. VRE Station Parking lot. Cost is $15 per adult and $10 for Children minimum 9 years of age. All proceeds go to the Park development effort. This hike is in undeveloped woods with some moderate slopes and uneven terrain. Sponsored by the Court Appointed Service Advocates of Greater Prince William, it runs from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. The event is black-tie optional and tickets cost $75 and attendees get to taste wine and also food from 40 area restaurants. (10/16) "Birding Tour at Ferry Farm" at George Washington's Ferry Farm 268 King's Highway, Fredericksburg VA 22405. These popular tours are offered again at Ferry Farm with Paul Nasca, a George Washington Foundation staff archaeologist and president of the Fredericksburg Birding Club. The tour will begin from the Ferry Farm Visitor Center parking lot at 8 a.m. and will last about 2.5 hours. Please wear good hiking boots and don't forget your binoculars, water,sunscreen, and bug spray. In the event of rain on the day of the tour, the tour will be canceled.
